Videos need transitions. Plain and simple.
Without transitions in your video, your content can be, well, boring. And boring content is a good way to make sure your audience never comes back to your channel.
No one wants that. You’re a video editor, and you want to impress your audience. And your audience wants to see cool content.
So, how can you create cool video content?

No one likes to watch boring videos, trust me. 😎 And videos without transitions aren’t just dull. They’re confusing and difficult to understand.
That’s why you need to add transitions to your videos.
Video transitions help to create a smooth flow from one scene in your video to the next. They also help to signify a change in mood or location in your video or show the passing of time.

How to Add Transitions in CapCut– A Tutorial
1- Open the CapCut App
There are a few different ways to get to the CapCut app. If you prefer editing your videos on a desktop, you can use CapCut in your browser. Just go to their website and sign in (or sign up if you don’t have an account.)
But if you want to edit your videos on your mobile device, head to the Apple App Store or Google Play to download the latest version of the app. Once you’ve downloaded the app on your phone, launch it to get started.
2- Start a New Project
Once you’re in the desktop app, it’s time to start a new project. Click on the “+ Create New” button. You’ll be prompted to select the type of project you want to create. For the purpose of this tutorial, we’ll click “blank canvas.”
If you’re on the mobile app, the process is the same. Tap on “New Project.” You’ll need to grant the app access to your photo gallery, so be sure to do that before you start your project. Don’t worry. There will be a pop-up prompting you to do this.
3- Select Your Video Clips
Next, you’ll need to select the clips you want to add a transition to. If you’re in the desktop app, you’ll need to upload the videos to CapCut.
If you find that you can only upload one video at a time, click the “Upload” button on the side of the screen. Once the second (or third, fourth, fifth, etc.) clips are uploaded, be sure to put them in the correct order at the bottom of the project screen. Simply click the clip and then drag and drop it into its correct place in the video.
If you’re on the mobile app, just tap the video clips you want to use for your project. Make sure to tap the clips in order of the final edit. This will put your clips in the correct order for the project.
4- Go to the End of the First Clip and Tap the “|” Icon
Depending on which version of the app you’re using, either the desktop version or the mobile app, this part of the process will look a tad different.
On the desktop, to add transitions in CapCut, hover over the beginning of the second video. You’ll see a pop-up that says, “Add transitions.” When it appears, click the button.
On the mobile app, to add transitions in CapCut, you’ll need to tap the “|” icon between video clips.
5- Pick Your Transition
Now you’re ready to choose the transition you want to add to your video. On the desktop, you’ll have plenty of transition options to choose from in the left sidebar. When you’ve found a transition you like the best, click it to add it to your video.
In the mobile app, slide through the transitions until you find one you like.
It’s important to note if you’re using the free version of CapCut, not every transition will be available to you. You’ll need a pro subscription for some of the more advanced features.
And in the free version, your video will transition to a clip advertising CapCut. Don’t forget to choose a cool transition for that clip, too.
6- Finish Editing Your Video
Now that you’ve learned how to add transitions in CapCut, finish editing your video. You can edit the sounds, add a filter, and more.
7- Save and Export Your Video
With the final edits in place, it’s time to export your video. On the desktop, click the “export” button.
On the app, tap the “export” icon. (It looks like an upwards arrow.)
Once your video is exported, you’ll have the option to share it directly with your followers on social media.
This is what that screen looks like on a mobile device.
Simply choose the platform you want to share your project to and follow the steps to upload it! 🚀
